Women of the Earth

Women of the Earth

The skin is the largest organ of the body.

Everything we place in or on our skin from lotion, sunscreen, feminine products, oils and makeup all seep into our skin and flow into our bloodstream.

Our skin is made up of millions and millions of immune cells and when we chose to put the right, natural products on our skin we can prevent the cold and flu, nourish the lymph nodes, and calm anxiety.

However, much of the products we normally see in stores don't understand this knowledge and disconnect us from the earth by disconnecting us from knowledge of our bodies.

For example, as a high schooler, my friends and I were weirdly obsessed with Summer's Eve, led there from society and commercials to believe vaginas are naturally yucky and need their own form of makeup.

When the truth is the vagina naturally cleanses itself, soap and fragrance can be very irritating and throwing off the ph of the vagina, and an unbalanced ph leads to more irritation, odor and infections.

Some natural ways to cleanse the sacred space are with clean water, coconut oil and some diluted apple cider vinegar.

Now, for the products we find ourself using on our moon time:

Tampons and pads are made of bleached cotton, rayon, and plastic which all have chemicals that go right into our bodies. We need to use products that align with our natural fluids to stay healthy. Unnatural tampons can disconnect us from our blood, therefore disconnecting ourselves from our monthly cycle, learning from it, how to become our own healers, and why we should celebrate it. For example, when a girl has her first menstruation cycle in Apache tribes, she goes into a four day ceremony of dances, songs, ceremony to recognize the divine is now entering her as she enters womanhood. It is something beautiful and we deserve healthy, natural products for our bodies and the earth (no plastic).

Moisturizing is a very important part of keeping the skin healthy and fresh, but always look at the ingredients of your lotion/cream. They should be easy to read, and not too long. For example, I create body butters made using shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, and some essential oil.

Shea butter is rich in vitamins A, D and E, anti-inflammatory, and so deeply nourishing.

Everything we feed into our bodies and minds; food, drinks, thoughts, media, self-care products all have an effect on our wellbeing and vibration.

It may seem daunting at first to change to an all natural lifestyle, but I recommend experimenting with some oils and reading an article that interests you on natural living.

Check out your local farmers market, and I bet there are lots of small business in your town that you can support and they can share their wisdom with you.

Blessed Be!
