SOULMUCH is a startup venture that has found a solution to the logistics of rescuing restaurant food waste and repurposing into healthy snacks such as our vegan, gluten free cookies that do not contain artificial sweeteners or oils, and contains 10 grams of protein.
When working in the restaurant industry you see first hand how much nutritious food is being thrown away. The restaurant industry wastes on average 84.3% of unused food according to the Food Waste Alliance.
When food is thrown away into a landfill, it creates methane which is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Food waste is one major contributor to greenhouse gases, and has added to the climate crisis we are currently in. In addition, the Natural Resource Defense Council stated that the amount of food being wasted equates to $165 billion annually. This is a huge problem, and we knew we had to start acting on this. Food waste is just one contributor to the amount of waste that is going to the landfill- there are so many other factors such as plastics, packaging, clothes, and other single use items such as napkins, and paper towels.
That is when we started to partner with restaurants in San Diego and collect their excess brown rice and quinoa, which we then process and create our own unique blend of brown rice and quinoa flour. We are currently making delicious cookies that are gluten-free and have lots of protein!
We are currently working with over 6 restaurant locations to up-cycle their ingredients. To date we have rescued over 14,000 pounds of food in a little over 2 years!
